Endometrial cancer starts when the cells in the inner lining of the uterus grow out of control. According to the American Cancer Society, approximately 61,800 women in the United States will be diagnosed with endometrial cancer in 2019, and approximately 12,160 women will die from the disease.1 How much do you know about endometrial cancer?
Endometrial cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer of the female reproductive organs in the United States, and it affects mainly postmenopausal women aged ≥60 years.1 White women are at a slightly higher risk for being diagnosed with the disease than black women, although the survival rate for black women is lower in each stage.2 Overall, the 5-year survival rate for women with endometrial cancer is approximately 81% (84% and 62% for white and black women, respectively).2 Public awareness of this disease needs to remain a priority to improve survival rates and patient quality of life.
