Gallbladder cancer, although rare in the United States, is most frequently found in women and individuals with Native American backgrounds.1 It is difficult to diagnose in the early stages of the disease and is usually found during a cholecystectomy.2 Overall, the 5-year survival rate for patients with gallbladder cancer can be approximately 80% when detected early and as low as 2% when detected later.2 Public awareness of this disease needs to remain a priority to improve survival rates and patient quality of life.
