It is estimated that 61,760 Americans were diagnosed with head and neck cancers (HNCs) in 2016. These malignancies can occur in the mouth, throat, larynx, salivary glands, nose, or sinuses. There are 3 main treatments for HNCs that can be used alone or in combination: chemotherapy/targeted treatments; surgery; and radiation. Public awareness of HNCs needs to remain a priority because, despite advances in treatment, prognosis still largely depends on the stage of disease at presentation.
